Mr. Derhammer joined James, Dark & Brill as an associate attorney in November 2019. Mr. Derhammer was born in Cheboygan, Michigan and has lived most of his life in Michigan. He served in the US Army from 1998-2001. Mr. Derhammer obtained an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Northern Michigan University in 2004 and obtained his law degree, with a litigation focus, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2009. Mr. Derhammer practices in the areas of insurance defense litigation and federal Indian law. He represents individuals and insurance carriers in a wide range of matters involving insurance coverage. He also works with tribal governments to enhance tribes’ sovereignty through the enforcement of tribal law and advocating for the enforcement of state and federal laws that protect tribes and tribal families. Prior to joining James, Dark & Brill, Mr. Derhammer worked with tribal governments as an in-house attorney, a tribal prosecutor, and as an attorney for survivors of domestic violence.
